A RESOLUTION honoring Helen Cottongim for 50 years of service to the Boone 1
County School District. 2
WHEREAS, Helen Cottongim's 50-year journey with the Boone County School 3
district began in 1972 when she was hired as a bus driver; and 4
WHEREAS, Helen Cottongim became a bus driver trainer in the 1980s and a 5
national bus driver trainer in 1990, when she began simultaneously traveling the country 6
to advocate for classified school employees; and 7
WHEREAS, Helen Cottongim served on the boards of the National Education 8
Association, the Kentucky Education Association, and the Kentucky Education Support 9
Professionals Associations, where she also served as the organization's first president; 10
and 11
WHEREAS, in 2010, Helen Cottongim was awarded the National Education 12
Association Education Support Professional of the Year Award; and 13
WHEREAS, Helen Cottongim has touched many lives, not just in Boone County 14
but throughout the Commonwealth and country through her daily dedication and 15
commitment to improving the educational experience for all; and 16
WHEREAS, Helen Cottongim, who has no plans to retire from her current role as 17
Boone County Education Safety and Training Coordinator, will undevotedly continue to 18
make a difference in the lives of the students in her community; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21
Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby honor Helen Cottongim for her 23
50 years of service and dedication to the Boone County School District, the 24
Commonwealth, and the country. 25
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 26
resolution to Senator John Schickel for delivery to Helen Cottongim. 27
