UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1812 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/10/2023 11:32 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Dan Hale. 1 WHEREAS, Dan Hale was born on March 23, 1920, to James Wesley and Virgie 2 Anders Hale; and 3 WHEREAS, Dan Hale enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served for 43 4 months. As a soldier within General Patton's Army, 5th Division, Dan Hale fought during 5 World War II. He spent time in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, 6 the Ardennes, and was in the Battle of the Bulge. While his platoon was fighting in a 7 hedgerow, German troops overran the soldiers and captured all but himself. Dan Hale 8 grabbed his rifle, asked the Lord for help, and ran. While serving in the Army, Dan Hale 9 suffered frostbite and lost his hearing due to an explosion which shattered his ear drum; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Dan Hale returned to London, Kentucky, and in February of 1947 he 12 married Alma Arthur Hale. The couple, determined to be wed, walked in knee-deep snow 13 to the preacher's house and then walked to another house to locate the preacher to 14 perform the wedding ceremony; and 15 WHEREAS, Dan Hale supported his large family through gardening and raising 16 their own food and working at Cook Brothers and then Dixie Motors. During his 35 years 17 with Dixie Motors, Dan Hale was an A-1 body man working with metal; and 18 WHEREAS, Dan and Alma Hale worked with other couples from London, 19 Kentucky, and established the London Disabled American Veteran's Chapter. The couple 20 maintained their lifetime memberships with the London DAV, American Legion, and 21 AmVets; and 22 WHEREAS, in his limited spare time, Dan Hale enjoyed fox hunting, fishing, and 23 gardening. Additionally, he served as the family's professional tater peeler. Dan Hale was 24 a sociable gentleman and loved being with family and friends and playing music; and 25 WHEREAS, Dan and Alma Hale were devoted followers of Christ and instilled 26 Christian values while raising their nine children. The family were members of Hilltop 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1812 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/10/2023 11:32 AM Jacketed Baptist Church and at times attended services three times every Sunday; and 1 WHEREAS, Dan Hale departed this earthly life at the age of 102 and went home to 2 the Lord on March 7, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley and 3 Virgie Anders Hale; four siblings, Curtis Hale, Gerlene Hale, Irene Galloway, and 4 Virginia Rockwell; two grandchildren, Eric Hale and Stephen Baker; and one great-5 grandson, Jesse Cobb; and 6 WHEREAS, Dan Hale's legacy will continue with his loving wife of 76 years, 7 Alma Arthur Hale; nine children, Brenda Reams, Linda (Luther) Arnold, Roger 8 (Charlotte) Hale, Ronnie (Sandra) Hale, Danny (Debbie) Hale, Von (David) Brock, Carol 9 (Denver) Begley, Lisa (Wendell) Benge, and Mark (Deronda) Hale; twenty-six 10 grandchildren; fifty-two great-grandchildren; seventeen great great-grandchildren; one 11 brother, Jerry Hale; and a host of other family and friends; 12 NOW, THEREFORE, 13 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 14 Kentucky: 15 Section 1. The Senate hereby extends its most profound sympathy upon the 16 passing of Dan Hale and expresses heartfelt condolences to his family and community in 17 this time of loss. 18 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 19 memory of Dan Hale. 20 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this 21 Resolution to Senator Brandon Storm for delivery. 22
