UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1862 Page 1 of 1 XXXX 3/30/2023 9:51 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION recognizing May 12, 2023, as Child Care Provider Appreciation 1 Day. 2 WHEREAS, child care providers help children develop social, language, and 3 problem-solving skills so they can reach their full potential in life and contribute to the 4 future growth of Kentucky; and 5 WHEREAS, child care providers support business and industry by providing 6 children with safe environments so parents can consistently go to work; and 7 WHEREAS, there are approximately 1,698 child care centers, 243 licensed or 8 certified family child care homes, and 38 family child care providers caring for children 9 in Kentucky; and 10 WHEREAS, one-half of all Kentuckians live in a child care desert where there are 11 either no child care providers or an insufficient number of child care slots; and 12 WHEREAS, the median income is $22,620 for child care teachers, $27,560 for 13 family child care teachers and administrators, and $31,828 for child care center directors; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, about 20 percent of child care providers hold second jobs; and 16 WHEREAS, it is essential that all of Kentuckians understand the importance of 17 supporting child care providers in their careers and in their goal of providing care and 18 opportunity for children and their families; 19 NOW, THEREFORE, 20 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21 Kentucky: 22 Section 1. The Senate does hereby recognize May 12, 2023, as Child Care 23 Provider Appreciation Day and encourages all Kentuckians to show their support for 24 child care providers in their communities. 25 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 26 Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas. 27
