UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1005 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/6/2023 8:10 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION honoring Congressman Morgan McGarvey upon his election to 1 the United States House of Representatives. 2 WHEREAS, Congressman Morgan McGarvey was born and raised in Louisville, 3 Kentucky. He graduated from duPont Manual High School within the Jefferson County 4 Public School system. Congressman McGarvey earned a bachelor's degree in journalism 5 from the University of Missouri. Longing for his old Kentucky home, Congressman 6 McGarvey returned to Kentucky to obtain a law degree from the University of Kentucky; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, Congressman McGarvey started his professional career as a Special 9 Assistant Attorney General in Kentucky and was a staff member for Congressman Ben 10 Chandler, who represented Kentucky's Sixth Congressional District. In 2010, 11 Congressman McGarvey became an associate lawyer for Morgan & Pottinger and served 12 on the firm's marketing committee and as a member of the litigation practice group; and 13 WHEREAS, Congressman McGarvey and his wife, Chris, created their family 14 home in Louisville to raise their three children, Clara, Wilson, and Greta. He has been a 15 member of the Louisville Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, the Young 16 Professionals Association of Louisville, the Prichard Committee on Effectiveness, and 17 Greater Louisville, Inc. Congressman McGarvey has been associated with the Domestic 18 Violence Advocates Program and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Congressman McGarvey is a 19 2010 graduate of Leadership Kentucky; and 20 WHEREAS, in 2012, Congressman McGarvey was elected to the Kentucky State 21 Senate to serve the Nineteenth Senatorial District in Jefferson County, representing 22 approximately 118,000 citizens. As a state senator, Congressman McGarvey served as a 23 committee member of Appropriations and Revenue, Banking and Insurance, Health, 24 Welfare, and Family Services, Legislative Oversight and Investigations, Licensing, 25 Occupations, and Administrative Regulations, Local Government, Medicaid Oversight 26 and Advisory, State Government, Transportation, and various interim specific task forces 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1005 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/6/2023 8:10 AM Jacketed or special committees; and 1 WHEREAS, in January 2019, Congressman McGarvey's Democratic peers elected 2 him to serve as Minority Floor Leader of the Kentucky State Senate. His leadership and 3 the experience he gained while serving in the Kentucky State Senate then inspired him to 4 pursue the nomination for Kentucky's Third Congressional District seat in the United 5 States House of Representatives; and 6 WHEREAS, on November 8, 2022, Congressman McGarvey was elected by his 7 constituents within Jefferson County to succeed retiring Congressman John Yarmuth and 8 represent the district's approximately 751,000 citizens; 9 NOW, THEREFORE, 10 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 11 Kentucky: 12 Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby salute Congressman Morgan 13 McGarvey and express their sincere appreciation for his service to his community, the 14 General Assembly, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 15 Section 2. The members of the Senate offer their heartfelt congratulations to 16 Morgan McGarvey on his victory in becoming the United States Congressman for the 17 Third Congressional District of Kentucky. 18 Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of 19 Congressman Morgan McGarvey. 20 Section 4.
