UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1019 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/18/2023 11:05 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION honoring Melanie Tyner-Wilson upon receiving the Jean 1 Sabharwal Award from Bluegrass Families First. 2 WHEREAS, each year, Bluegrass Families First recognizes an individual who has 3 demonstrated passionate advocacy for Lexington's children and families; and 4 WHEREAS, Bluegrass Families First bestows the Jean Sabharwal Award to an 5 individual who has dedicated his or her professional career to its mission to promote and 6 provide opportunities for high quality early childhood development, education, health, 7 and human services for Lexington families in their progress toward self-sufficiency; and 8 WHEREAS, Bluegrass Families First has chosen Melanie Tyner-Wilson to be the 9 recipient of the 2023 Jean Sabharwal Award; and 10 WHEREAS, Melanie Tyner-Wilson received her undergraduate and graduate 11 degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has taken coursework in 12 Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation from the University of Kentucky; and 13 WHEREAS, Melanie Tyner-Wilson dedicated her esteemed career to enhancing the 14 quality of family life, having recently retired from her position as Family Support 15 Specialist and Navigator for the University of Kentucky Developmental Pediatric Clinic, 16 where she served since 2015. She also served as Special Needs Outreach Coordinator for 17 the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center and as a Project Coordinator and 18 Family Involvement Specialist for the Kentucky Early Childhood Transition Project 19 through the University of Kentucky Human Development Institute's University Center 20 for Excellence. She served as an educational mediator for 11 years for the Division of 21 Exceptional Children Services with the Kentucky Department of Education; and 22 WHEREAS, Melanie Tyner-Wilson is active in her community as a current 23 member of the Fayette County Human Rights Commission, a board member for the Arc 24 of Central Kentucky and the Arc of Kentucky, a member of the Kentucky Autism 25 Commission, and a member of the Autism Society of the Bluegrass. The Senate hereby honors Melanie Tyner-Wilson upon receiving the 4 2023 Jean Sabharwal Award from Bluegrass Families First. 5 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Melanie 6 Tyner-Wilson. 7 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 8 Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for delivery. 9
