A RESOLUTION honoring Jeffrey "Jeff" Harmon for completing the Badwater® 1 
135 Ultramarathon on July 13, 2022. 2 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey "Jeff" Harmon admirably serves the Commonwealth as 3 
Counsel for the Kentucky State Senate; and 4 
WHEREAS, while Jeff demonstrates mental toughness and resiliency on the 5 
Capitol grounds, he augments these traits with corporeal ability and successfully 6 
completed the Badwater® 135 Ultramarathon; and 7 
WHEREAS, the Badwater® 135, also known as the 135 -Mile World 8 
Championship, is an invitational elite event that convenes up to 100 runners from around 9 
the world with the necessary running credentials to navigate the strenuous environment; 10 
and 11 
WHEREAS, the grueling race course begins below sea level at the lowest elevation 12 
in North America in Badwater Basin, Death Valley, and ends at the portal to the highest 13 
point in the contiguous United States at Mt. Whitney, California; and 14 
WHEREAS, Jeff began running "The World's Toughest Foot Race" on the evening 15 
of July 11, 2022, and continually traversed over three mountain ranges facing 16 
temperatures above 125 degrees over the next 44 hours and 40 minutes to finish on July 17 
13, 2022; and 18 
WHEREAS, Jeff was not alone in this accomplishment and received constant 19 
support as he ran the course from his wife, Dianna Harmon. Dianna served as the lead 20 
member of the support crew that followed him along in a van during the race to monitor 21 
his sustenance, physical condition, and pace to finish; and 22 
WHEREAS, during the race, Dianna intervened to require Jeff to rest and 23 
recuperate for a three-hour break while ensuring that he was on track to complete within 24 
the 48-hour time limit. While this race initially included an elite field of 100 runners, 25 
only 77 runners finished the race, demonstrating the importance of a proper support crew; 26

NOW, THEREFORE, 1 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 2 
Kentucky: 3 
Section 1.   The members of the Senate, individually and collectively, hereby 4 
honor Jeffrey "Jeff" Harmon for competing in the 2022 Badwater® 135 Ultramarathon. 5 
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 6 
Resolution to Senator David Givens for delivery to Jeffrey Harmon. 7
