UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 867 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 10/20/2023 10:41 AM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Marion Brewer Memorial Bridge in 1 Powell County. 2 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer, son of the late Charlie and Mollie Centers Brewer, 3 was born on May 2, 1935, in Stanton, Kentucky, and passed away on April 1, 2023, 4 surrounded by his family; and 5 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer, upon graduating from Powell County High School, 6 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; and 7 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer became a Staff Sergeant and proudly served on active 8 duty from 1953 until 1961; and 9 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer was a Korean War Veteran and during his service he 10 received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good 11 Conduct Medal; and 12 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer, affectionately called "Brother Brewer," pastored 13 many churches during his 63-year tenure as a minister. He pastored Powell's Valley 14 Baptist Church in Clay City, Kentucky, from 1967 to 2000. He most recently pastored 15 Beech Grove Baptist Church and Cow Creek Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky. He was 16 also a member of Salem Baptist Church; and 17 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer was Director of the Powell County Senior Citizens for 18 10 years and a member of the MEPCO Home Health Board for many years; and 19 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer is greatly missed by his family and friends, including 20 his loving wife of 67 years, Janice Brewer; his three daughters, Debbie Means, Teresa 21 Noble, and Brenda Johnson; grandchildren, Brooke Mays, Shayna Campbell, Sarah 22 Rogers, and David Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kamryn Kennon, Keegan Lacy, Garrett 23 Mays, Sophia Rogers, Olivia Rogers, Delaney Johnson, and JJ Watts; and one great-great 24 grandchild, Marli Angel; and 25 WHEREAS, Marion Brewer lived his life serving others and sharing the gospel and 26 it is fitting and proper that his contributions be memorialized in some tangible way; 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 867 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 10/20/2023 10:41 AM Jacketed NOW, THEREFORE, 1 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2 ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on Kentucky 3 Route 82 which crosses the Red River in Powell County (Bridge Number 099B00050N), 4 the "Marion Brewer Memorial Bridge", and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of 5 this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 6
