UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1620 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/16/2024 2:05 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION expressing support for the State of Israel and the Israeli people 1 and condemning the violent events on October 7, 2023. 2 WHEREAS, the sovereign and independent nation of Israel was established on May 3 14, 1948, and was immediately recognized by the United States of America, leading to 4 the establishment of full diplomatic relations between our two nations; and 5 WHEREAS, demonstrating unwavering resilience, the State of Israel has repeatedly 6 been forced to defend itself and its people, surrounded by a hostile environment and 7 constant threats; and 8 WHEREAS, the State of Israel has one of the world's leading technological 9 industries, is a pioneer in research and development in the field of energy and medicine, 10 and has long been a valued trading partner with the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and 11 WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, Kentuckians, alongside people around the world, 12 were horrified by the violent terrorist attacks launched against the Jewish people and 13 State of Israel that claimed the lives of over 1,200 individuals in the initial attack; and 14 WHEREAS, following the attack, Hamas took hostage over 240 Israeli and other 15 foreign nationals, many of whom are still being held captive in Gaza; and 16 WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is an unequivocal supporter of the 17 State of Israel and its right to exist and to defend itself against terror and threats to the 18 security of its people; and 19 WHEREAS, our great Commonwealth w ishes to reiterate its unwavering 20 commitment to the State of Israel by reaffirming our partnership of more than 75 years 21 with Israel and the Jewish people and our shared commitment to the advancement of 22 democratic values, cultural ties, and the desire for peace among all people of all nations; 23 NOW, THEREFORE, 24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 25 Commonwealth of Kentucky: 26 Section 1. The members of the House of Representatives, both collectively and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1620 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/16/2024 2:05 PM Jacketed individually, along with members of the Kentucky Israel Caucus, reaffirm their support 1 for all people of the State of Israel and express their hope that the State of Israel and its 2 neighbors can live in freedom and peace with mutual recognition of each other's dignity 3 and autonomy. 4 Section 2. The members of the House of Representatives, both collectively and 5 individually, along with the Kentucky Israel Caucus, offer heartfelt condolences to all the 6 victims of the attacks, as well as their families and communities. 7 Section 3. The House of Representatives condemns the terrorist actions that 8 began on October 7, 2023, against the State of Israel and the Jewish people. 9 Section 4. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in 10 recognition of the Commonwealth's support and reverence for the resilience of the Israeli 11 people. 12 Section 5. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 13 copy of this Resolution to Anat Sultan-Dadon, Consulate General of Israel to the 14 Southeast United States. 15
