KRS 158.141 is amended to read as follows: 3 (1) [Beginning on July 1, 2018, ]To graduate from a Kentucky public high school with 4 a regular diploma, a student shall pass a civics test composed of one hundred (100) 5 questions drawn from those that are set forth within the civics test administered by 6 the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to persons seeking to 7 become naturalized citizens. 8 (2) A local board of education shall prepare or approve a test composed of the 9 questions described in subsection (1) of this section and shall disseminate the test to 10 all public high schools of the district. The test shall be administered by the public 11 high schools in each district. 12 (3) A public high school shall provide each student with the opportunity to take the test 13 as many times as necessary for the student to pass the test. A student shall not 14 receive a regular high school diploma until the student passes the test. 15 (4) A student passes the test if at least sixty percent (60%) of the questions are 16 answered correctly. 17 (5) A student who has passed a similar test within the previous five (5) years shall not 18 be required to take the test under this section. 19 (6) Provisions of this section shall be subject to the requirements and accommodations 20 of a student's individualized education program as defined in KRS 158.281 or a 21 Section 504 Plan as defined in KRS 156.027. 22 (7) By June 30 of each year, each school district shall report data to the Kentucky 23 Department of Education on the civics tests taken during the school year. The 24 department shall compile the data and publicly post a report which includes, by 25 grade, the number of students who took the test, the number of tests taken, and 26 the scores received during the school year. 27
