Briggs was born on May 5, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, 3 to the late James Howard Wright and Ruth Laverne Ross Wright; and 4 WHEREAS, Karen W. Briggs grew up in a family of 10 living in a less than 800 5 square foot home, where she learned how to thrive in chaos and developed the virtues of 6 grace, honesty, and laughter that would guide her for the rest of her life; and 7 WHEREAS, at the time of her passing, Karen W. Briggs was an active member of 8 The Way Church in Horse Cave, Kentucky, walking by faith and with joy in her heart; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, after retiring from a career working as a customer service 11 representative at RR Donnelley, Karen W. Briggs sought to serve her local community 12 and became the clerk for the City of Park City, Kentucky, believing that small towns 13 could accomplish great things and positively impacting her workplace with her 14 contagious calmness, relentlessly positive attitude, and love of laughter; and 15 WHEREAS, in her personal, professional, and spiritual life, Karen W. Briggs was 16 motivated toward the selfless service of others, coming alongside those in need with an 17 attitude of judgment-free love and grace; and 18 WHEREAS, through her work at The Way Church, Karen W. Briggs helped 19 members of her community struggling through difficult circumstances, including 20 addiction, incarceration, food and housing insecurity, and marital issues, providing much-21 needed guidance, support, and kindness; and 22 WHEREAS, Karen W. Briggs exemplified the ideas that worry should never be 23 borrowed, that grudges and resentment should never be harbored, and that life should be 24 faced with grace and good humor; and 25 WHEREAS, on January 16, 2024, Karen W. Briggs is survived by her loving family, including her 1 husband, William Briggs; daughters Angela Briggs and Ashlee (Justin) Dennis; 2 grandchildren Zach Driver, Eli Dennis, and Ava Dennis; siblings Pam (Don) Glaab, 3 Beverly (Johnny) Bennett, Howard (Kathy) Wright, Dave (Sandra) Wright, Kevin (Carla) 4 Wright, Timmy (Mary) Wright, and Tony (Rachelle) Wright; along with many other 5 extended family and friends who honor her memory; 6 NOW, THEREFORE, 7 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 8 Kentucky: 9 Section 1. The members of the Senate do hereby express their most profound 10 sympathy upon the passing of Karen W. Briggs. 11 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 12 memory of Karen W. Briggs. 13 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 14 Resolution to Senator David Givens for presentation to the family. 15
