A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in recognition and celebration of the 1 
artistic talents and achievements of Minnie Adkins, one of the best-known woodcarving 2 
artists in Kentucky, on her 90th birthday. 3 
WHEREAS, Minnie Adkins was born on March 13, 1934; and 4 
WHEREAS, Minnie Adkins received numerous prestigious awards, and is known 5 
nationally and internationally as Kentucky's foremost living folk artist; and 6 
WHEREAS, a woodcarver since childhood, Minnie Adkins has greatly contributed 7 
to the growth of the Kentucky Folk Art Center; and 8 
WHEREAS, Minnie Adkins has been a dedicated supporter of other self-taught 9 
artists, and worked tirelessly to nurture and encourage them as they found their own 10 
voice; and 11 
WHEREAS, Minnie Adkins' work is featured in the American Folk Art Museum, 12 
Smithsonian, and National Gallery of Art; and 13 
WHEREAS, as a testament to her work and continuing contribution to the arts, in 14 
2014, the first Minnie Adkins Day was celebrated in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and is now 15 
celebrated yearly on the third Saturday in July; and 16 
WHEREAS, to further honor and show appreciation to Minnie Adkins, on March 9, 17 
2024, the Kentucky Folk Art Center will host a celebration of her 90th birthday; 18 
NOW, THEREFORE, 19 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 20 
Kentucky: 21 
Section 1.   The Senate hereby celebrates Minnie Adkins on her 90th birthday. 22 
Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in recognition and 23 
utmost commendation of Minnie Adkins. 24 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 25 
Resolution to Senator Robin Webb for delivery. 26
