UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2276 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/22/2024 3:00 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION honoring the Taylor County High School Lady Cardinals girls' 1 wrestling team, as the 2024 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State 2 Champions. 3 WHEREAS, on February 17, 2024, at Alltech Arena in Lexington, the Taylor 4 County Lady Cardinals won the 2024 Kentucky High School Athletic Association 5 (KHSAA) Girls' Wrestling Championship, scoring a team total of 123.5 points to beat out 6 second place Harrison County by 23.5 points; and 7 WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals made history by claiming the inaugural 8 championship in the history of the sport, and they are forever etched into the history 9 books of Kentucky high school athletics; and 10 WHEREAS, incredibly, the Lady Cardinals managed to secure the team title 11 without a single one of their wrestlers winning an individual state championship, with the 12 team piling up points through seven different wrestlers placing in the top five to score 13 team points; and 14 WHEREAS, Lady Cardinals placing in the top five in their division and scoring 15 team points were: Rialee Boyd (5th Place, 100 Pound Class), Shelby Clayton (4th Place, 16 114 Pound Class), Ava Sweet (4th Place, 120 Pound Class), Abbie Oliver (5th Place, 132 17 Pound Class), Nastaja Cooper (5th Place, 145 Pound Class), Kaylyn Lawson (2nd Place, 18 185 Pound Class), and Alayna Venegas (2nd Place, 285 Pound Class); and 19 WHEREAS, other Lady Cardinal wrestlers who completed at the finals were Haley 20 Buckland, Alyvia Cutler, Karleigh Oliver, and Addysen Dotson; and 21 WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals were guided by head coaches Spencer Adams and 22 Angie Vitiritti, and assistant coach Kendra Thompson; and 23 WHEREAS, the future looks bright for the Lady Cardinals, with several 24 experienced wrestlers due to be back on the mats for the reigning state champions next 25 year, as the team looks to make more history; and 26 WHEREAS, the dedication, tenacity, resilience, and teamwork shown by the Taylor 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2276 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/22/2024 3:00 PM Jacketed County Lady Cardinals on their journey to the state championship sets a worthy example 1 for young athletes across the Commonwealth, and it is wholly appropriate that they be 2 publicly recognized for their hard work and achievements; 3 NOW, THEREFORE, 4 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5 Kentucky: 6 Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Max Wise in congratulating 7 the Taylor County Lady Cardinals and head coaches Spencer Adams and Angie Vitiritti, 8 2024 KHSAA Girls' Wrestling champions, and wishing all team members, coaches, and 9 staff good fortune in all future endeavors. 10 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 11 Senator Max Wise for presentation to the team. 12
