A RESOLUTION honoring the life and accomplishments of Alice Dudley Woods 1 
Baesler. 2 
WHEREAS, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler was a native of Lexington and graduated 3 
from Bryan Station High School and the University of Kentucky before dedicating her 4 
career to agricultural issues and programs; and 5 
WHEREAS, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler started her career as a teacher in Fayette 6 
County and served as a 4-H leader before joining the Kentucky Department of 7 
Agriculture, where she led the Kentucky Agriculture in the Classroom program; and 8 
WHEREAS, for over 40 years, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler was an active partner 9 
in the Baesler tobacco farm operation and was part of Kentucky's hemp research efforts, 10 
becoming one of the first women granted a hemp license to grow and process hemp oil in 11 
Kentucky's hemp program; and 12 
WHEREAS, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler co-founded the organization Women in 13 
Agriculture, which is now over 20 years old and continues to emphasize the importance 14 
of women in Kentucky agriculture; and 15 
WHEREAS, during Alice Dudley Woods Baesler's esteemed career she served as 16 
chair of the Bluegrass Area Extension, where she was instrumental in the building of the 17 
Fayette County Extension Services offices, and served as a chairperson of the hospitality 18 
committee in 1985 when Lexington hosted the NCAA Division I men's basketball 19 
championship; and 20 
WHEREAS, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler served on numerous task forces, 21 
including the Kentucky Consortium for Hispanics and Latinos, the Migrant Network 22 
Coalition, and the Kentucky Farm Workers Program; and 23 
WHEREAS, in 2018, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler was inducted into the 24 
University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Hall of 25 
Distinguished Alumni, the highest honor the college confers; and 26 
WHEREAS, Alice Dudley Woods Baesler passed away on August 7, 2023, at the 27  UNOFFICIAL COPY  	24 RS BR 383

age of 82. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Henry Scott "Scotty" Baesler, her 1 
son Dudley Scott Baesler, her daughter Ashley Woods Baesler, her three grandchildren, 2 
and a host of other friends and loved ones; 3 
NOW, THEREFORE, 4 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5 
Kentucky: 6 
Section 1.   The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sympathy upon the 7 
passing of Alice Dudley Woods Baesler. 8 
Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 9 
memory of Alice Dudley Woods Baesler. 10 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 11 
Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for delivery to the family. 12
