A RESOLUTION honoring the Lyon County High School Lyons, 2024 KHSAA 1
Boys' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Champions. 2
WHEREAS, on March 23, 2024, before a crowd of 13,568 fans at Rupp Arena in 3
Lexington, the Lyon County High School Lyons defeated the Black Bears of Harlan 4
County High School by a score of 67 to 58 to capture the 2024 Kentucky High School 5
Athletic Association (KHSAA) Boys' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship; and 6
WHEREAS, in the championship game, the Lyons held a 14-point lead midway 7
through the second quarter, only to see the Black Bears come all the way back to tie the 8
score at 50 with just over six minutes remaining in the game. The Lyons then when on an 9
8 to 0 run over the next three minutes to grab the advantage for good; and 10
WHEREAS, the state championship was the first in school history for Lyon 11
County, and was keyed by three seniors who became teammates in the second grade and 12
for whom this championship was the fulfillment of a dream: Travis Perry, Jack Reddick, 13
and Brady Shoulders; and 14
WHEREAS, Travis Perry, a point guard who was named Kentucky's Mr. Basketball 15
for 2024 and last year passed the legendary "King" Kelly Coleman as the state’s all-time 16
leading scorer, finished his career with 5,481 points by scoring 27 points in the final and 17
was named Sweet Sixteen MVP; and 18
WHEREAS, Brady Shoulders, who over the course of the season averaged a 19
double-double with 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, and Jack Reddick, who 20
scored 16 points and dished out four assists in the championship game, joined Travis 21
Perry on the All-Tournament Team; and 22
WHEREAS, the victory in the championship game was the capstone of a brilliant 23
season in which the Lyons compiled a record of 36 wins against three losses, won their 24
last 16 games in a row, and outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points a game; 25
and 26
WHEREAS, after reaching the quarterfinals of the Sweet Sixteen in each of the 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2498

previous two seasons, Lyon County Head Coach Ryan Perry, Travis' father, reflected on 1
his team's championship: "It’s not very often that people get to obtain dreams. These guys 2
had this as a dream way back a lot of years ago, and they all sacrificed a lot of stuff for it. 3
What we did was not easy."; and 4
WHEREAS, other members of the Lyon County team included: seniors Luke 5
Burchett and Jackson Crawford; sophomores Lukas Breedlove, Carson Collins, Cooper 6
Collins, Isaac Defew, Johnson Herring, Bray Kirk, and Jonah Ramey; and eighth graders 7
Hudson Phillips, Colton Prow, and Jett Reddick; and 8
WHEREAS, Lyon County Head Coach Ryan Perry's staff included assistants Rob 9
Day, Keith Matchen, Thomas J. Rooyakkers, Sam Suitor, and Alex Sutton; and 10
WHEREAS, the talent, dedication, and resilience of the Lyon County Lyons has 11
resulted in these young men penning their names forever in the annals of Kentucky high 12
school basketball history, and it is fitting and proper that they be publicly recognized; 13
NOW, THEREFORE, 14
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 15
Kentucky: 16
Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Jason Howell in 17
congratulating the Lyon County Lyons and Coach Ryan Perry on winning the 2024 18
KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen Championship, applauding their stellar play, and wishing 19
the team and coaches good fortune in all future endeavors. 20
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 21
Senator Jason Howell for presentation to the team. 22
