UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1527 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/10/2024 12:14 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION celebrating the first place win by the Lady Long Knives of 1 George Rogers Clark High School United States Army JROTC at the 2023 JROTC 2 National Raider Challenge Championship in the All-Services Female Division. 3 WHEREAS, the United States Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps 4 (JROTC) is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth 5 in the world, with programs established at public and private educational institutions. Its 6 goal is to "instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values 7 of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of 8 accomplishment." The focus of JROTC is reflected in its mission statement, "To 9 Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens"; and 10 WHEREAS, George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky, 11 understood the need and significance of establishing an Army JROTC for the community 12 and, in 2005, created its own JROTC program, known as the Long Knives, which has 13 become a nationally recognized organization within the JROTC National Raider 14 Challenge Championships; and 15 WHEREAS, the 2023 members of the Lady Long Knives JROTC team are captain 16 Bailey Wood, Lilly Perry, Monica Crews, Allie Endricks, Laura Ross, Tara Daniels, 17 Jessica Kidd, Saige Plummer, Penelope McIntosh, Rori Cooper, Amithy Salcido, Kira 18 Conley, Valeria Martinez, and Addison Salcido. The team is dutifully led by Lieutenant 19 Colonel (Ret.) Thomas Krupp and Master Sergeant (Ret.) Larry Lee; and 20 WHEREAS, the JROTC National Raider Challenge Championships is an athletic 21 competition that focuses on a team's and individual's citizenship, leadership, and 22 physical, mental, and emotional wellness; and 23 WHEREAS, on Friday, November 3, 2023, the Lady Long Knives were tested by a 24 series of exercises at the JROTC National Raider Challenge Championship in Fort Knox, 25 Kentucky, including the one-rope bridge, 5K team race, Cross Country Rescue, Physical 26 Team Test, and Gauntlet, with these events lasting from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1527 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/10/2024 12:14 PM Jacketed WHEREAS, the Lady Long Knives competed against over 2,000 teams from across 1 the nation, with teams from as far afield as New York and Hawaii; and 2 WHEREAS, the Lady Long Knives finished in first place in the 5K team race 3 despite treacherous mountain terrain; and 4 WHEREAS, in the one-rope bridge event, where ten cadets must traverse over a 5 water obstacle with a rope without touching the water, the Lady Long Knives finished in 6 first place with an impressive time of two minutes and 56 seconds, beating most of the 7 all-male team times; and 8 WHEREAS, the Lady Long Knives were also able to finish third in the Cross 9 Country Rescue, fifth in the Physical Team Test, and seventh in the Gauntlet; and, 10 WHEREAS, the Lady Long Knives demonstrated their strength, endurance, and 11 teamwork, earning first place nationally in the All-Services Female Division; 12 NOW, THEREFORE, 13 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 14 Kentucky: 15 Section 1. The Senate does hereby congratulate and honor the Lady Long 16 Knives of the George Rogers Clark High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps 17 on their first place win in the All-Services Female Division at the 2023 JROTC National 18 Raider Challenge Championship. 19 Section 2. The members of the Senate commend the dedicated leadership of 20 Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Thomas Krupp and Master Sergeant (Ret.) Larry Lee and 21 celebrates the members of the Lady Long Knives Raider Challenge team. 22 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 23 Resolution to the Office of Senator Greg Elkins for presentation. 24
