A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Representative Mike Cherry Memorial 1
Highway in Caldwell, Crittenden, and Lyon Counties. 2
WHEREAS, Mike Cherry was born in Princeton, Kentucky, on February 6, 1943, 3
to his late parents, Everett and Winnie Cherry; and 4
WHEREAS, Mike Cherry attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State 5
University, a Master of Science degree from the University of Louisville, and Master 6
Equivalency from both the Naval War College and the National Defense University; and 7
WHEREAS, Mike Cherry was a highly decorated, retired veteran of the United 8
States Navy who, after retiring, moved back to his home of Caldwell County, Kentucky, 9
where he successfully won a seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives; and 10
WHEREAS, representing District 4 from 1999 until 2013, Representative Mike 11
Cherry was instrumental in efforts to achieve sound and practical legislative actions while 12
sponsoring key pieces of legislation as well as cosponsoring legislation with his esteemed 13
colleagues in the House of Representatives during his tenure; and 14
WHEREAS, Representative Mike Cherry placed a great deal of focus on public 15
works projects that ensured a greater level of safety to those traveling the roads of the 16
Commonwealth while providing better accessibility to the communities he served in 17
Western Kentucky, including the newly constructed and relocated northern section of 18
United States Highway 641 through Caldwell, Crittenden, and Lyon Counties; and 19
WHEREAS, Representative Mike Cherry passed away on February 21, 2024, prior 20
to seeing this project to completion; and 21
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the many and generous contributions of 22
Representative Mike Cherry be memorialized in some tangible way; 23
NOW, THEREFORE, 24
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 25
ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the newly relocated 26
northern portion of the newly relocated United States Route 641 in Caldwell, Crittenden, 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 1741

and Lyon Counties as the "Representative Mike Cherry Memorial Highway", and shall, 1
within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting 2
this designation. 3
