UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 2008 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/5/2025 3:15 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Sandra 1 Sue "Sandy" Weaver May. 2 WHEREAS, Sandra Sue "Sandy" Weaver May was born on January 3, 1942, in 3 Union, Kentucky, to Sue Bristow and Harold Weaver, as one of six children who were 4 raised to know the value of hard work and a strong family; and 5 WHEREAS, Sandy May graduated from Boone County High School in 1959, 6 where she was active in the Glee Club; and 7 WHEREAS, Sandy May went on to Western Kentucky State College, now Western 8 Kentucky University, where she was a member of Beta Omega Chi and graduated with 9 her bachelor's degree in education in 1964; and 10 WHEREAS, Sandy May later attended Eastern Kentucky University and received 11 her master's degree in 1980; and 12 WHEREAS, while student teaching in Brandenburg, Kentucky, Sandy met and fell 13 in love with Robert "Bob" May. They married in August of 1964 and were married for 54 14 years before his passing in 2019; and 15 WHEREAS, Sandy May and Bob went on to have many adventures as their 16 teaching careers led them to various education positions across the state. They eventually 17 settled in Carrollton, Kentucky, to raise their family; and 18 WHEREAS, beyond her career in education, Sandy May was an elder and president 19 of the congregation at Carrollton Christian Church, a Carrollton City Council member, 20 chair of the Board of Health for the Three Rivers District Health Department, and a 21 faithful member of the Friday Night Supper Club; and 22 WHEREAS, Sandy May retired as the principal of Kathryn Winn Primary School, 23 where she served the Carrollton community and its children for many years. Retirement 24 did not suit her and she continued work as a consultant with the Kentucky Department of 25 Education and mentor for the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program; and 26 WHEREAS, Sandy May was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. She rarely 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 25 RS BR 2008 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/5/2025 3:15 PM Jacketed missed watching a basketball game and was a big part of the football tailgate scene; and 1 WHEREAS, known as "Meme" by her family, Sandy May found the most joy from 2 her children and grandchildren. She was a doting matriarch and never missed an 3 opportunity to tell them how proud she was of all their accomplishments and successes; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Sandy May was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She 6 was confident in her relationship with Christ and the joyous reunion she would have in 7 heaven; and 8 WHEREAS, Sandy May peacefully departed this earthly life on February 8, 2025, 9 in the care of her adoring family, at the home of her daughter in Bedford, Kentucky; and 10 WHEREAS, Sandy May was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bill, 11 Gene, Norman "Buddy," and John; infant daughter, Maria Lynn May; and the love of her 12 life and husband, Robert May; and 13 WHEREAS, Sandy May is survived by her children, Robert Bryan (Cathy) May 14 and Jenna (Robert) May Stevens; grandchildren, Dr. Abigail May, Jackson May, 15 Benjamin Stevens, and Katherine Stevens; sister, Sally Carpenter; sister-in-law, Charlotte 16 Weaver; and several beloved nieces and nephews who all knew her as their "Suesue"; 17 NOW, THEREFORE, 18 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 19 Kentucky: 20 Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sympathy upon the 21 passing of Sandra Sue "Sandy" Weaver May. 22 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 23 memory of Sandra Sue "Sandy" Weaver May. 24 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 25 Resolution to Senator Gex Williams for delivery to the family. 26
