A RESOLUTION recognizing February 5, 2025, as Recovery Advocacy Day in the 1 
Commonwealth. 2 
WHEREAS, Kentucky has been devastated by overdose deaths due to opioid use 3 
and other substance use disorders; and 4 
WHEREAS, from January to December 2023, accidental and preventable opioid 5 
poisonings took the lives of 2,068 Kentuckians; and 6 
WHEREAS, Kentucky has been a leader in many areas aiming to preserve and 7 
protect life, including expanding harm reduction services and launching of the Advisory 8 
Council for Recovery Ready Communities project in 2022 that has since certified 21 9 
counties across the Commonwealth; and 10 
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Commonwealth continue to suffer from a lack of 11 
resources, including access to recovery and harm reduction services that support and 12 
foster recovery equity; and 13 
WHEREAS, the lives and experiences of those living in long-term recovery should 14 
be celebrated; and 15 
WHEREAS, a renewed resolve to aid, support, and protect those impacted by the 16 
lives that have been lost as well as those in recovery is needed; and 17 
WHEREAS, members of the Senate encourage the citizens of the Commonwealth 18 
to help break the stigma that has plagued people suffering from substance use disorders 19 
and encourage them to share their stories of resilience and perseverance;  20 
NOW, THEREFORE, 21 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 22 
Kentucky: 23 
Section 1.   The members of the Senate hereby proclaim February 5, 2025, as 24 
Recovery Advocacy Day in the Commonwealth. 25 
Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor, recognition, 26 
and celebration of Kentuckians living in long-term recovery and of those providing 27  UNOFFICIAL COPY  	25 RS BR 1456

support and encouragement to them. 1 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 2 
Resolution to Senator Keturah Herron for delivery. 3
