HOUSE BILL NO. 1125
BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLIAMS
MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES:  Creates the "Share the Road" prestige license plate
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 47:463.141, relative to special prestige license plates; to provide for the2
creation and issuance of the "Share the Road" license plate; to provide for fees and3
distribution of fees; to provide for the promulgation of rules and regulations; and to4
provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.R.S. 47:463.141 is hereby enacted to read as follows:7
`ยง463.141.  Special prestige license plate; "Share the Road"8
A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall9
establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Share the10
Road" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such plates.11
These license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks,12
recreational vehicles, and vans.13
B. The special prestige license plate shall be known as the "Share the Road"14
license plate and shall bear the likeness of a person on a bicycle riding on the road15
centered on the left side of the licence plate. The "Louisiana" name logo shall be at16
the top of the plate. The center of the plate shall display a number, with the first17
issued plate displaying the number one and shall continue in consecutive numerical18
order for each plate. Centered at the bottom of the plate below the number shall be19

C. The prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen1
of Louisiana.2
D. The department shall collect the following fees for this license plate:3
(1) An initial fee of twenty-five dollars, which shall be disbursed in4
accordance with Subsection E of this Section.5
(2) A handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents to be retained by the6
department to offset a portion of administrative costs.7
(3) A renewal fee, which shall be the same as the fee for renewing a regular8
motor vehicle license plate.9
E. The monies received from the additional twenty-five dollar fee shall be10
annually disbursed to the statewide nonprofit advocacy organization promoting11
bicycle safety or to regional advocacy organizations promoting bicycle safety in the12
absence of a statewide organization.13
F. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations as are necessary to14
implement the provisions of this Section.15

portion of administrative costs. A renewal fee which shall be the same as the fee for

provisions provided in proposed law.
