MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates a support for our veterans prestige license plate
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 47:490.22, relative to military license plates; to provide for the establishment2
of a military support license plate for military veterans; to provide for the design and3
issuance of the license plate; to provide relative to fees for the license plate; to4
authorize the promulgation of rules and regulations; and to provide for related5
matters. 6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 47:490.22 is hereby enacted to read as follows:8
ยง490.22.  Military support license plates; Support Our Veterans9
A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall10
establish a military support license plate to be known as the "Support Our Veterans"11
license plate. The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup12
trucks, recreational vehicles, and vans. The license plate shall be a color and design13
selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs.  The secretary of the department14
shall be prohibited from changing the design and color of the license plates within15
a five year period after the date of acceptance of a specific color and design.16
B. The license plates shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen of17
Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.18
C. A one-time royalty fee of twenty-five dollars for use of the prestige plate19
shall be collected from the applicant and forwarded to the Louisiana Military Family20
Assistance Fund for each license plate issued as provided in for in this Section. The21

provided for in R.S. 47:463 and a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents to1
offset a portion of the department's administrative costs.2
D. The monies received from the royalty fees by the Louisiana Military3
Family Assistance Fund shall be used solely in accordance with the provisions of4
R.S. 46:121 et seq.5
E. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the6
provisions of this Section, including but not limited to rules governing the transfer7
of the license plates from one vehicle to another and the disposition of such license8
plates.9

Proposed law requires the secretary for DPS&C to issue a military support license plate for
military veterans.  The license plate shall be known as the "Support Our Veterans" license
plate. 
Proposed law restricts use of the license plate to passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational
vehicles, and vans. Further provides for color and design to be selected by the Dept. of
Veterans Affairs and further prohibits the secretary of the department from changing the
design and color of the license plates within a five-year period after the date of acceptance
of a specific color and design.
Proposed law provides that the license plates shall be issued, upon application, to any citizen
of La. in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
Proposed law requires a one-time royalty fee of $25 for use of the prestige plate which shall
be collected and forwarded to the La. Military Family Assistance Fund to be used solely in
accordance with the provisions of R.S. 46:121 et seq. 
Proposed law requires the department to collect the standard motor vehicle registration
license fee provided for in present law and a handling fee of $3.50 to offset a portion of the
department's administrative costs.
