Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 1277 (Substitute for House Bill No. 53 by Representative Roy) BY REPRESENTATIVE ROY TRANSPORTATION DEPT: Authorizes the use of a portion of Interstate 49 as an alternate route for U.S. Highway No. 71 and U.S. Highway No. 167 to haul agronomic or horticultural crop on the interstate system AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 32:387.19, relative to special permits; to authorize the use of a portion of2 Interstate 49 as an alternate route for U.S. Highway No. 71 and U.S. Highway No.3 167 to haul agronomic or horticultural crops on the interstate; and to provide for4 related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S.32:387.19 is hereby enacted to read as follows:7 ยง387.19. Special permits; authorization to travel on portions of Interstate 49; to8 hauling of agronomic or horticultural crops9 Notwithstanding any other provision of the law to the contrary, and provided10 the federal government does not raise any objection to such permitted weight11 limitations, the segment of interstate between the interchange of Interstate 49 with12 U.S. Highway No. 71 and U.S. Highway No. 167 (MacArthur Drive) south of13 Alexandria and the interchange of Interstate 49 with Rapides Station Road north of14 Alexandria is hereby deemed as an alternate route for U.S. Highway No. 71 and U.S.15 Highway No. 167. Proposed law authorizes vehicles which are traveling under any special permit issued under present law (R.S. 32-379, et seq. - Size, Weight, and Load of Vehicles) to travel on I-49 as an alternative route for U.S. Highway No. 71 and U.S. No. 167 (MacArthur Drive) south of Alexandria and the interchange of I-49 with Rapides Station Road north of Alexandria. Provides that the provisions of proposed law shall become null and void and have no effect if federal highway funding is withheld due to the passage proposed law. (Adds R. S. 32:387.19)
