CRIMINAL/PROCEDURE: Provides that the grand and petit jury venire lists be made
available to the public without having to be published
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Code of Criminal Procedure Article 417(B), relative to the petit and2
grand jury venire lists; to repeal the requirement that the grand and petit jury venire3
lists be published in the official journal of the parish or other newspaper; to provide4
that the grand and petit jury venire lists be made available to the public; and to5
provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. Code of Criminal Procedure Article 417(B) is hereby amended and8
reenacted to read as follows: 9
Art. 417. Proces verbal; summoning of petit jurors; parishes other than Orleans10

B. The clerk shall cause a copy of the petit jury venire list and grand jury12
venire list to be published in the official journal of the parish, if there be one, or in13
some other newspaper published in the parish, or, if there is no official journal or14
other newspaper in said parish, he shall post a copy of the list on the door of the15
courthouse make available for public inspection and copying the petit jury venire list16
and grand jury venire list.17

Abstract: Provides that grand and petit jury venire lists be made available for public
inspection but are not required to be published.
Present law requires the clerk to cause a copy of the petit jury venire list and grand jury
venire list to be published in the official journal of the parish or, if no official journal exists
in the parish, in some other newspaper published in the parish. If there is no official journal
or other newspaper in the parish, the clerk shall post a copy of the list on the door of the
courthouse.
Proposed law repeals this provision of present law and provides that the clerk shall make
the grand and petit jury venire lists available for public inspection and copying.
