Abstract: Provides for funding for compliance with the wild La. seafood certification
program from the Artificial Reef Fund.
Present law establishes the Artificial Reef Development Fund. Provides that monies in the
fund are to be used for the operation of the artificial reef program in the Dept. of Wildlife
and Fisheries, including permitting, establishing, monitoring, and maintenance of the
artificial reefs.
Proposed law would allow up to 10% of the annual donations and interest income from the
fund to be used to provide funding in association with the wild seafood certification
program, including wild-caught shrimp, established and run by the department. Authorizes
the use of the monies to assist seafood harvesters and processors to comply with the
certification program requirements and for administration of the program.
