LEASES: Provides for the delay within which to provide notice of termination of a
residential lease
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 9:3262, relative to residential leases; to provide for the delay required for2
notice of termination of a residential lease; to provide for applicability; and to3
provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 9:3262 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง3262.  Notice of termination7
A residential lease requiring more than sixty days notice of termination prior8
to its automatic renewal under the terms of the lease shall be deemed to require no9
more than sixty days notice of termination prior to the automatic renewal of the10
lease.11
Section 2. The provisions of this Act shall apply to residential leases entered into or12
renewed on or after July 1, 2010. For residential leases in existence prior to July 1, 2010,13
which contain an automatic renewal provision, this Act shall apply to those contracts as of14

Abstract: Provides a maximum of 60 days notice in order to terminate a lease which
automatically renews under the terms of the lease.
Proposed law provides that a residential lease requiring more than 60 days notice of
termination prior to its automatic renewal under the terms of the lease shall be deemed to
require no more than 60 days notice of termination.
Proposed law provides that the provisions of proposed law shall apply to residential leases
entered into or renewed on or after July 1, 2010, and that the provisions of 	proposed law
shall apply as of the first renewal date on or after July 1, 2010, for existing leases.
