STUDENT/SCH ATTENDANCE: Requires school boards to provide for the noon
dismissal of students transported by school bus on days when the expected high
temperature is 100 degrees or higher
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:81(T) and 3996(B)(24), relative to the powers, duties, functions, and2
responsibilities of city, parish, and other local public school boards; to require school3
boards to provide for the early dismissal of certain students under certain weather4
conditions; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 17:81(T) and 3996(B)(24) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
§81. General powers of city, parish, and other local public school boards8

T.(1) Each city, parish, and other local public school board shall provide that10
any student transported by school bus be dismissed at noon on any school day when11
the expected high temperature for that day is one hundred degrees or higher.12
(2) For the purposes of this Subsection, the term city, parish, and other local13
public school board shall mean the governing authority of any public elementary or14
secondary school.15

B. Notwithstanding any state law, rule, or regulation to the contrary and19
except as may be otherwise specifically provided for in an approved charter, a20

Chapter and its approved charter and the school's officers and employees shall be1
exempt from all statutory mandates or other statutory requirements that are2
applicable to public schools and to public school officers and employees except for3
the following laws otherwise applicable to public schools with the same grades:4
