AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:1448(G)(1) and (O) and to enact R.S. 33:1448(Y), relative2
to premium costs of group hospital and health insurance for retired sheriffs and3
retired deputy sheriffs in certain parishes; to provide for eligibility for payment of4
premium costs; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 33:1448 (G)(1) and (O) are hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.7
33:1448(Y) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
ยง1448.  Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation9

G.(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the11
premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and12
the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of13
this Section shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and14
deputy sheriffs retired with at least fifteen years of service who are at least fifty-five15
years of age or retired with at least thirty years of service at any age. The provisions16
of this Subsection shall be applicable only to the sheriffs' offices of the parishes of17
Bossier, St. Bernard, St. Martin, Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Caddo,18
Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, East Feliciana, Grant,19
Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lincoln, Livingston, Morehouse,20
Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, St. James, St. John, Union,21
Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, West22
Feliciana, and any parish with a population of between one hundred thousand and23

sheriff of the Civil District Court of the parish of Orleans, for their respective1
retirees.  The provisions of this Subsection shall also apply to the employees of the2
Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund and the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, which3
fund and association shall pay the premium costs for their employees.4

O. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, in the6
parish of St. Charles, one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital,7
surgical, and medical expense insurance and the first ten thousand dollars of life8
insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid from the9
sheriff of St. Charles Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the premium10
cost of group insurance for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff who has retired11
from the St. Charles Parish sheriff's office Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to12
receive monthly benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund and who has13
either of the following as follows:14
(1)  For any sheriff or deputy sheriff who was hired on or before July 1, 2010,15
one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical16
expense, dental insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance17
contracted for pursuant to the provisions of this Section, if the sheriff or deputy18
sheriff retired with either of the following:19
(a) At least fifteen years of full-time creditable service with the St. Charles20
Parish sheriff's office Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.21
(2)(b) At least thirty years of full-time creditable service with the St. Charles22
Parish sheriff's office Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.23
(2) For any sheriff or deputy sheriff who was hired after July 1, 2010, the24
sheriff of St. Charles Parish shall pay the premium cost of group hospital, surgical,25
medical expense, dental insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance26
contracted pursuant to the provisions of this Section, if the sheriff or deputy sheriff27
retired as follows:28
(a) One hundred percent if retired with at least thirty years of full-time29
creditable service with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.30 ENROLLEDHB NO. 163

(b) Seventy-five percent if retired with at least twenty-five years of full-time1
creditable service with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five2
years of age.3
(c) Fifty percent if retired with at least twenty years of full-time creditable4
service with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of5
age.6

Y. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the8
sheriff of St. John the Baptist Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the9
premium cost of group insurance for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff who has10
retired from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to11
receive monthly benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund as follows:12
(1) For any sheriff or deputy sheriff who was hired on or before July 1, 2010,13
one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical14
expense, dental insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance15
contracted for pursuant to the provisions of this Section, if the sheriff or deputy16
sheriff retired with either of the following:17
(a) At least fifteen years of full-time creditable service with the St. John the18
Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.19
(b)  At least thirty years of full-time creditable service with the St. John the20
Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.21
(2) For any sheriff or deputy sheriff who was hired after July 1, 2010, the22
sheriff of St. John the Baptist Parish shall pay the premium cost of group hospital,23
surgical, medical expense, dental insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life24
insurance contracted pursuant to the provisions of this Section, if the sheriff or25
deputy sheriff retired as follows:26
(a) One hundred percent if retired with at least thirty years of full-time27
creditable service with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, regardless of28
