Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 177 BY REPRESENTATIVE POPE SCHOOLS/FINANCE: Requires the state to pay the transportation costs for students attending approved nonpublic elementary and secondary schools AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:158(I), relative to education finance; to provide that the state shall pay the2 cost for transportation of certain students attending nonpublic schools; to provide for3 conditions; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 17:158(I) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง158. School buses for transportation of students; employment of bus operators;7 alternative means of transportation; improvement of school bus turnarounds8 * * *9 I. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the state shall10 pay the cost incurred by a school district for the transportation of students attending11 nonpublic schools which are approved by the State Board of Elementary and12 Secondary Education pursuant to R.S. 17:11 and are compliant with the criteria set13 forth in Brumfield, et al. v. Dodd, et al., 425 F. Supp. 528.14 Section 2.
