Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 182 BY REPRESENTATIVE GISCLAIR TRANSPORTATION: Provides relative to free and unhampered passage on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge for emergency vehicles AN ACT1 To enact R. S. 47:820.5.6, relative to exemptions from tolls on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge;2 to provide for the exemptions from tolls for emergency vehicles under certain3 circumstances; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 47:820.5.6 is hereby enacted to read as follows:6 ยง820.5.6. Free and unhampered passage on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge; emergency7 vehicles8 A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, all emergency9 vehicles shall have free and unhampered passage crossing the Tomey J. Doucet10 Bridge on Louisiana Highway 1 in Leeville, Louisiana.11 B. For the purposes of this Section, "emergency vehicles" shall be defined12 as all emergency vehicles performing a public service that permits them, under13 existing laws and regulations, to display emergency vehicle lights in order to carry14 out ambulance functions in accordance with the laws relative thereto, when such15 lights are in actual use. This shall also apply to emergency vehicles privately owned16 but entitled to such public emergency usage. Any emergency vehicle positioned on17 the south side of the Tomey J. Proposed law defines "emergency vehicles". Proposed law removes police and fire emergency motor vehicles from inclusion in the definition of "emergency vehicles". Proposed law exempts, from the payment of tolls, those public and private emergency vehicles traveling with their emergency flashing lights on in the performance of their duties. Proposed law further exempts, from the payment of tolls, any emergency vehicle positioned on the south side of the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge in case of an emergency. Proposed law requires DOTD to promulgate rules and regulations for the efficient implementation and enforcement of the provisions of proposed law.
