SURVEYORS: Provides for changes to terms of appointments to the La. Professional
Engineering and Land Surveying Board
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:683(B)(3), relative to terms for appointments to the Louisiana2
Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board ; to provide for a two-year term3
for one of the licensed professional land surveyor appointees; and to provide for4
related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 37:683(B)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7

(3) All appointments to the board shall be for terms of not less than five nor12
more than six years. All appointments shall be for such periods of time as to ensure13
that the terms of not more than two board members end per year, and shall expire on14
March thirty-first of the expiration year, regardless of the date on which the15
successor was appointed and qualified.  Notwithstanding any provision of this16
Paragraph to the contrary, the terms of any board members appointed before March17
31, 2006, shall expire on March thirty-first of the calendar year following their18

contrary, one of the licensed professional land surveyors appointed to the board for1
a full term beginning in 2010 shall serve a full term of only two years.2

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not4
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature5
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If6
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become7
effective on the day following such approval.8

Abstract: Relative to the term served by one of the licensed professional land surveyors
appointed to the board beginning in 2010.
Present law provides that all appointments to the board shall be for terms of not less than
five nor more than six years. All appointments shall be for such periods of time as to ensure
that the terms of not more than two board members end per year, and shall expire on March
31 of the expiration year, regardless of the date on which the successor was appointed and
qualified.
Proposed law changes present law to provide that all appointments expire on March 31 of
the expiration year.
Proposed law provides that one of the licensed professional land surveyors appointed to the
board for a full term beginning in 2010 shall only serve a full term of two years.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
