MTR VEHICLE/SEAT BELTS: Increases fine for seat belt violations
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32.295.1(G)(1), relative to seat belt violations; to increase fines2
for seat belt violations; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1. R.S. 32.295.1(G)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:5

G.(1) Any person who violates this Section subsequent to August 31, 1995,8
and prior to November 1, 1995, shall be given a warning ticket only. Subsequent to9
October 31, 1995, any person who violates this Section shall be subject to the10
following penalties:11
(a) Upon conviction of a first offense, the fine shall be twenty-five one12
hundred dollars which shall include all costs of court.13
(b) Upon conviction of a second offense, the fine shall be fifty two hundred14
dollars which shall include all costs of court.15
(c) Upon conviction of a third offense and any subsequent offense, the fine16
shall be fifty two hundred dollars plus all costs of court.17

Abstract: Increases fines for seat belt violations.
Present law provides that upon conviction of a first offense, the fine shall be $25, including
all costs of court.
Proposed law increases the fine to $100.
Present law provides that upon conviction of a second offense, the fine shall be $50,
including all costs of court.
Proposed law increases the fine to $200.
Present law provides that upon conviction of a third offense and any subsequent offense, the
fine shall be $200, plus all costs of court.
Proposed law increases the fine to $200.
