Abstract: Authorizes DOTD to use monies from the Transportation Trust Fund to fund
ferries that are not connected to state roads.
Present law states that DOTD shall perform no work on the parish road system or any other
roads or streets which are not in the state highway system. Provides for the following
exceptions:
(1)The department shall construct, maintain, and improve roads, whether hard surfaced
or otherwise, within state parks and state historic sites as defined by law and such
sites with existing highways.
(2)The department is authorized to perform work on the TIMED project known as the
New Florida Ave. Bridge over Industrial Canal.
(3)The department is also authorized to perform work on intersectional improvements
on parish roads or municipal streets and to perform work on parish roads or
municipal streets for the purposes of operational or safety reasons when the parish
road or municipal street intersects with a state highway which is programmed for
improvement or construction.
Present law requires that any construction work under taken by DOTD under the provisions
of these exceptions shall be in accordance with present law governing the letting of all other
contracts by the department.
Proposed law provides that present law shall not prohibit the use of TTF monies to fund
ferries that are not connected to state roads.
