AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 56:320(B)(3), relative to taking of crabs; to remove the2
requirement for a crab trap to have a float and float line if the trap is placed in certain3
locations of the state; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 56:320(B)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6

(3) Crabs or stone crabs may be taken with any legal crab trap, crab dropnet,11
trawl, skimmer net, butterfly net, hoop net, trotline, handline, bushline, dip net, or12
cast net. A dredge shall not be used for the intentional taking of crabs.  Crab traps13
located in areas designated as freshwater north of the northern bank of the14
Intracoastal Waterway and west of Louisiana Highway 70 and those areas located15
on the eastern side of the Mississippi River and inland from the saltwater line are not16
required to be marked with a float and float line, unless the trap is placed in a lake.17
