SCHOOLS/EMPLOYEES: Requires school guidance counselors to complete academic
profiles for ninth grade students
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:3006, relative to school guidance counselors; to require school guidance2
counselors employed in public high schools to complete an academic profile for each3
student in the ninth grade; to provide for information to be included in the profile;4
to provide for student and parental involvement in completing the profile; to provide5
for annual review of the profile; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 17:3006 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
ยง3006. School guidance counselors; academic profiles; public high schools;9
required10
Each school guidance counselor employed in a public high school shall11
complete an academic profile for each student in the ninth grade using LA ePortal.12
The profile shall  include but not be limited to the student's academic and personal13
goals, planning for college, exploring careers, participation in extracurricular14
activities, and other skills and interests. All information contained in the profile also15
shall be included in the student's individual graduation plan developed pursuant to16
R.S. 17:183.2 and 2925. The counselor shall involve the student and the student's17

student and his parent or legal guardian to review and revise the profile accordingly1
each year that the student is enrolled in the school.2

grade student and specifies certain information to be included in the profiles.
Provides for student and parental involvement.
Proposed law requires each high school guidance counselor to complete an academic profile
for each ninth grade student using LA ePortal. Provides that the profile shall include but not
be limited to the student's academic and personal goals, planning for college, exploring
careers, participation in extracurricular activities, and other skills and interests. Requires all
information contained in the profile to be included in the student's individual graduation
plan. Requires student and parental involvement in completing the profile and in the annual
review and revision of the profile.
