SHERIFFS: Provides relative to dental benefits for sheriffs and deputies of the Terrebonne
Parish Sheriff's Office
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:1448(L)(introductory paragraph), relative to the Terrebonne2
Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for retirement benefits; to provide with respect to3
dental insurance; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 33:1448(L)(introductory paragraph) is hereby amended and6
reenacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1448. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation8

L. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, in the10
parish of Terrebonne, one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital,11
surgical, dental, and medical expense insurance and the first ten thousand dollars of12
life insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid from13
the sheriff's general fund for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who has retired from the14
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and who is eligible to receive benefits from the15
Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund, and who has either of the following:16

Abstract: Requires the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's office to pay premium costs for dental
insurance for certain retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs in Terrebonne Parish.
Present law provides that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical
expense insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance shall be paid from the
sheriff's general fund for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who has retired from the Terrebonne
Parish Sheriff's Office who has either:
(1)At least 20 years of total service with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, and is
at least 55 years of age, and meets all of the requirements of the Sheriff's Pension and
Relief Fund for retirement with twenty years or more of service; or.
(2)At least 30 years of continuous service with the 20 Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's
Office regardless of age.
Proposed law retains present law and includes dental insurance as a benefit payable by the
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.
