PROBATION: Deletes provisions of law regarding the extension of parole until completion
of monetary obligation
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Code of Criminal Procedure Article 894.4, relative to probation and2
parole; to remove provisions authorizing the extension of a period of parole from3
completion of a monetary obligation; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  Code of Criminal Procedure Article 894.4 is hereby amended and6
reenacted to read as follows: 7
Art. 894.4.  Probation or parole; extension8
When a defendant has been sentenced to probation or is on parole and has a9
monetary obligation, including but not limited to court costs, fines, costs of10
prosecution, and any other monetary costs associated with probation or parole, the11
judge may extend the period of probation or parole until the monetary obligation is12
extinguished.13

Abstract: Removes language authorizing judges to extend the period of parole when the
defendant has an outstanding monetary obligation.
Present law provides that when a defendant has been sentenced to probation or is on parole
and has a monetary obligation, including but not limited to court costs, fines, costs of
prosecution, and any other monetary costs associated with probation or parole, the judge
may extend the period of probation or parole until the monetary obligation is extinguished.
Proposed law deletes references to parole and otherwise retains present law.
