HLS 10RS-1195 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 543 BY REPRESENTATIVE BARRAS LIBRARIES: Abolishes the Iberia Parish Law Library Commission AN ACT1 To repeal Part V of Chapter 3 of Title 25 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,2 comprised of R.S. 25:291 through 294, relative to the Iberia Parish Law Library3 Commission; to repeal such commission and the powers, rights, and duties of such4 commission; to provide for the transfer of any obligations, property, records, and5 employees of the commission; to provide for use of the monies of the commission;6 and to provide for related matters.7 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published8 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of9 Louisiana.10 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:11 Section 1. Part V of Chapter 3 of Title 25 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,12 comprised of R.S. 25:291 through 294, is hereby repealed in its entirety.13 Section 2. The Sixteenth Judicial District Court shall be the successor to the Iberia14 Parish Law Library Commission. All of the obligations, property, records, and employees15 of the Iberia Parish Law Library Commission are hereby transferred to the Sixteenth Judicial16 District Court. Present law creates the Iberia Parish Law Library Commission to establish and operate a law library for the use of the judiciary, the bar, and the public of Iberia Parish. Present law provides for membership on the commission and its powers. Present law further provides for the funding of the district through the levy of a filing fee on certain classes of cases docketed by the clerk of court for Iberia Parish. Present law further provides that the commission shall not become a charge on the public funds of Iberia Parish or the state of La. Proposed law repeals present law. Proposed law further provides that the 16th JDC shall be the successor to the Iberia Parish Law Library Commission and shall receive all obligations, property, records, and employees of the commission. Further provides that all monies formerly belonging to the Iberia Parish Law Library Commission shall be used to make technological improvements to courtrooms in Iberia Parish.
