INDIGENT DEFENSE: Provides that the governor shall appoint at least one member from
each congressional district to the La. Public Defender Board
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 15:146(F), relative to the Louisiana Public Defender Board; to provide for the2
composition of the board; to provide that at least one member appointed by the3
governor shall be from each congressional district; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 15:146(F) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6

F. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, of the total9
number of appointments made by the governor as provided for in this Section, at10
least one member shall be appointed from each congressional district.11
Section 2.  This Act shall become effective on August 15, 2011.12 HLS 10RS-947	ORIGINAL

Abstract: Provides that the members of the La. Public Defender Board appointed by the
governor shall be appointed from each congressional district.
Present law provides for the membership of the La. Public Defender Board and provides
criteria for the appointment of board members.
Proposed law retains the provisions of present law and provides that of the total number of
appointments made by the governor, at least one member shall be appointed from each
congressional district.
Effective Aug. 15, 2011.
