CRIME/RACKETEERING:  Amends the La. Racketeering Act
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 15:1352(A)(12) and to enact R.S. 15:1352(A)(20) through (29),2
relative to "racketeering activity"; to add enumerated crimes to the definition of3
"racketeering activity"; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 15:1352(A)(12) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.6
15:1352(A)(20) through (29) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1352.  Definitions8
As used in this Chapter:9
A. "Racketeering activity" means committing, attempting to commit,10
conspiring to commit, or soliciting, coercing, or intimidating another person to11
commit any crime which is punishable under the following provisions of Title 14 of12
the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, the Uniform Controlled Dangerous13
Substances Law, or the Louisiana Securities Law:14

Abstract: Adds enumerated crimes to the list of offenses which constitute "racketeering
activity".
Present law defines "racketeering activity" as including solicitation for murder, first degree
murder, second degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting, aggravated kidnapping, second
degree kidnapping, aggravated arson, carjacking, extortion, theft, certain controlled
dangerous substance violations, pandering, and money laundering.
Proposed law retains the provisions of present law and adds the following: simple
kidnapping; simple arson; aggravated criminal damage to property; simple criminal damage
to property; aggravated burglary; simple burglary; simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling;
simple burglary of a pharmacy; unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling; first degree
robbery; second degree robbery; and simple robbery. 
Present law provides for certain controlled dangerous substance violations to be included in
the definition of "racketeering activity".
Proposed law adds possession of large quantities of marijuana (60 pounds up to 10,000
pounds) to present law.
