INSURERS/AGENTS: Provides for the period of time allowed between completion of the
prelicensing program for insurance agents and their examination for licensure
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1571(E)(1), relative to licensure of insurance agents; to allow2
applicants at least twenty-four months between successful completion of the3
prelicensing program and taking the examination for such licensure; and to provide4
for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 22:1571(E)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง1571.  Registered insurance agent and bail agent prelicensing program8

E.(1)(a) Each registered insurance agent prelicensing program shall provide10
instruction by a qualified instructor in a structured setting or by verifiable approved11
self-study with a minimum of twenty hours of supervised instruction or self-study,12
including instruction in applicable insurance principles, state laws and regulations,13
and ethical practices, for each of the following lines of authority a license is sought:14
life, health and accident, property, casualty, and personal lines.15
(b) An applicant for licensure as an insurance agent shall have at least16
twenty-fou r months after successful completion of the prelicensing program17
authorized by Subparagraph (1)(a) of this Subsection in which to take the18
examination for such licensure without the necessity of completing such program19
again. 20

Abstract: Allows applicants for licensure as insurance agents at least 24 months between
successful completion of the prelicensing program and taking the examination for
such licensure.
Present law requires that each registered insurance agent prelicensing program provide
instruction by a qualified instructor in a structured setting or by verifiable approved self-
study with a minimum of 20 hours of supervised instruction or self-study, including
instruction in applicable insurance principles, state laws and regulations, and ethical
practices, for each of the following lines of authority a license is sought: life, health and
accident, property, casualty, and personal lines.
Proposed law provides that an applicant for licensure as an insurance agent shall have at
least 24 months after successful completion of such prelicensing program in which to take
the examination for such licensure without the necessity of completing such program again.
