Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE BILL NO. 828 BY REPRESENTATIVE CORTEZ COURTS/FEDERAL: Authorizes federal magistrate judges to perform marriage ceremonies for a specified time period AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 9:203(E)(8), relative to marriage officiants, judges, and justices of the peace;2 to provide for the extension of authority for certain federal magistrate judges to3 preside over a marriage ceremony for a specified period of time; and to provide for4 related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 9:203(E)(8) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง203. Officiant; judges and justices of the peace8 * * *9 E.10 * * *11 (8) Any United States magistrate judge of the Western District, Eastern12 District, or Middle District may perform marriage ceremonies within this state.
