HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 116
BY REPRESENTATIVE RITCHIE
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Louisiana State University student Tyler Crosby of Bush, Louisiana, upon his
receipt of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Tyler Crosby as a recipient of the Barry
M. Goldwater Scholarship; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Crosby is a biological engineering junior and a member of the LSU
Honors College who is planning to graduate from LSU in May of 2011; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crosby participated in the LSU China Initiative in 2006, serves as
webmaster for the LSU Biological Engineering Student Organization, and is a member of
the LSU Chancellor's Future Leaders in Research program; and
 WHEREAS, after graduation, Mr. Crosby intends to pursue a medical career by
earning both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree with the intent
to conduct clinical research into genetic therapies for diseases; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crosby hopes to utilize his experience as a researcher to advance
the treatment of disease while directly caring for and interacting with patients; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crosby's ambition to study medicine stems from his childhood, as
he gained interest in the medical field by watching his mother work as a radiological
technician; and 
WHEREAS, with his graduation from LSU in 2011, Mr. Crosby is becoming the first
member of his immediate family to earn a four-year college degree; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crosby recently was selected as a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
recipient in recognition of his outstanding academic performance as a biological engineering
student at LSU; and
WHEREAS, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, which was established by
Congress in 1986, is a federal scholarship awarded to select college students with the ENROLLEDHCR NO. 116

purpose of providing a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and
engineers by awarding scholarships to college sophomores and juniors; and
WHEREAS, as a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship recipient, Mr. Crosby joins two
hundred seventy-seven college sophomores and juniors from across the United States who
also received this honor for the 2010-2011 academic year; and 
WHEREAS, this very prestigious scholarship provides up to seven thousand five
hundred dollars per year for educational expenses; and
WHEREAS, Tyler Crosby merits a special measure of commendation for his
outstanding accomplishments as a citizen and scholar.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Louisiana State University student Tyler Crosby of Bush, Louisiana, upon his
receipt of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, does hereby recognize and record for
posterity his exceptional academic achievements, does hereby express enduring appreciation
for the tremendous pride and honor he brings to his community and state, and does hereby
extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Tyler Crosby.
