BY REPRESENTATIVES GALLOT AND DOWNS AND SENATOR KOSTELKA
CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Mary Hobdy of Grambling
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Mary Hobdy of Grambling.2
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the3
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Mary Hobdy of Grambling on Thursday,4
April 15, 2010; and 5
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy was a vital member of the Grambling State University6
community who made a lasting impact on all of those whose lives she touched; and7
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy came to Grambling in September of 1950 as a secretary8
at Grambling State University; and9
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy married Fredrick C. Hobdy, a legendary basketball coach10
at Grambling State University, on May 27, 1951; and11
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy was a gifted writer and enjoyed writing poetry; and12
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years,13
Fredrick C. Hobdy, who passed away on December 8, 1998; and14
WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Hobdy, Louisiana has lost one of her finest15
citizens; and 16
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hobdy leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly17
missed; and18
WHEREAS, although the death of Mrs. Hobdy has left a tremendous void in her19
community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and20

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Mary Hobdy of Grambling, does2
hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding accomplishments and singular3
contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this4
wonderful woman will forever bring to her family, friends, and community, Grambling State5
University, and the state of Louisiana.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted7
to the family of Mary Hobdy. 8
