CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson
of Marksville
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express sincere condolences upon the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of Marksville.2
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the3
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of Marksville4
on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the age of sixty-six; and 5
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was born in New Orleans and moved to the sawmill town6
of Zimmerman after his father purchased J.A. Bentley Lumber Company; and7
WHEREAS, upon graduation from Holy Savior Menard High School, Dr. Johnson8
attended Louisiana College, where he graduated with a degree in pre-medicine; and9
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson also enrolled in a master's degree program in microbiology10
at Louisiana Polytechnic Institution, now known as Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston;11
and12
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson later decided to pursue a degree in dentistry, graduating13
from Loyola School of Dentistry at Loyola University in New Orleans in 1970; and14
WHEREAS, afer graduation, Dr. Johnson moved to Marksville in Avoyelles Parish,15
where he started his dental practice; and16
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, where17
he served as president, and he was a past vice president and treasurer of the Eighth District18

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a member of the L.D. Pankey Institute Foundation in1
Florida, the International Endodontic Society, and Xi Psi Phi Fraternity, and he was also on2
the council of the National Board of Dental Examiners; and3
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a past board member of Marksville General Hospital4
and Central Louisiana Bank and Trust Company, and he was a member of the Mystick5
Krewe of Louisianians in Washington, D.C.; and6
 WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was also a member of the National Affiliated Corporation7
and was the recipient of the LSU School of Dentistry Dental Challenge Fund Dean's Club8
Award; and9
WHEREAS, in his leisure time, Dr. Johnson was an avid sportsman, and he received10
the Outstanding Sportsman Award from the Marksville Jaycees; and11
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a charter member and spearheaded the formation of12
Ducks Unlimited in Avoyelles Parish; and13
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was beloved by his family and all his patients and hunting14
buddies, and he liked to entertain people with his many amusing stories; and15
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Barbara Dodge Johnson; four16
children, Mary Helen Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Dubea and her husband, Robert, state17
representative Robert A. Johnson, and Vivian Anne Harper and her husband, Robert; his18
grandson, Robert Payne Harper, Jr.; and an array of extended family members and friends;19
and20
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. Johnson and21
Lucy Gossard Johnson; and22
WHEREAS, with the death of Dr. Johnson, Louisiana has lost one of her finest23
citizens; and 24
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson, who was admired by all whose lives he touched, leaves25
behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and26
WHEREAS, although the death of Dr. Johnson has left a tremendous void in his27
community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and28

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of2
Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments3
and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and4
honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, community, and state.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted6
to the family of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson. 7
