A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express sincere condolences upon the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of Marksville.
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of Marksville
on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the age of sixty-six; and 
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was born in New Orleans and moved to the sawmill town
of Zimmerman after his father purchased J.A. Bentley Lumber Company; and
WHEREAS, upon graduation from Holy Savior Menard High School, Dr. Johnson
attended Louisiana College, where he graduated with a degree in pre-medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson also enrolled in a master's degree program in microbiology
at Louisiana Polytechnic Institution, now known as Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson later decided to pursue a degree in dentistry, graduating
from Loyola School of Dentistry at Loyola University in New Orleans in 1970; and
WHEREAS, afer graduation, Dr. Johnson moved to Marksville in Avoyelles Parish,
where he started his dental practice; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 123

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, where
he served as president, and he was a past vice president and treasurer of the Eighth District
Dental Association; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a member of the L.D. Pankey Institute Foundation in
Florida, the International Endodontic Society, and Xi Psi Phi Fraternity, and he was also on
the council of the National Board of Dental Examiners; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a past board member of Marksville General Hospital
and Central Louisiana Bank and Trust Company, and he was a member of the Mystick
Krewe of Louisianians in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was also a member of the National Affiliated Corporation
and was the recipient of the LSU School of Dentistry Dental Challenge Fund Dean's Club
Award; and
WHEREAS, in his leisure time, Dr. Johnson was an avid sportsman, and he received
the Outstanding Sportsman Award from the Marksville Jaycees; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was a charter member and spearheaded the formation of
Ducks Unlimited in Avoyelles Parish; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was beloved by his family and all his patients and hunting
buddies, and he liked to entertain people with his many amusing stories; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Barbara Dodge Johnson; four
children, Mary Helen Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Dubea and her husband, Robert, state
representative Robert A. Johnson, and Vivian Anne Harper and her husband, Robert; his
grandson, Robert Payne Harper, Jr.; and an array of extended family members and friends;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. Johnson and
Lucy Gossard Johnson; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Dr. Johnson, Louisiana has lost one of her finest
citizens; and 
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson, who was admired by all whose lives he touched, leaves
behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 123

WHEREAS, although the death of Dr. Johnson has left a tremendous void in his
community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and
loved him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson of
Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments
and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and
honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Dr. Robert Walton Johnson.
