HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 124
BY REPRESENTATIVE ARMES
FISHING/RECREATIONAL: Urges the Sabine River Authority and the Dept. of Wildlife
and Fisheries to work with their Texas counterpart to develop consistent fishing
regulations on Toledo Bend
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Sabine River Authority and the Department of Wildlife and2
Fisheries to work with their Texas counterparts to develop consistent fishing3
regulations applicable throughout the Toledo Bend Reservoir.4
WHEREAS, the states of Louisiana and Texas, through the Sabine River Compact,5
share access to and authority over the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Reservoir; and6
WHEREAS, through the years, differing fish management regimes have been7
developed by the two states, including different size and creel limits, which can make fishing8
on Toledo Bend confusing for the angler and the laws difficult to enforce; and9
WHEREAS, since Toledo Bend is one body of water with no distinctions between10
the two states' geographical areas, it would seem to make sense that the fish management11
regime should be the same across the entire body of water rather than differing between the12
two states; and13
WHEREAS, the Sabine River Authority is Louisiana's representative in the Sabine14
River Compact and has the relationship with the Texas Sabine River Compact15
representatives to enable discussion of consistent fishing regulations; and16
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to17
manage fisheries for the state of Louisiana and to enforce the regulations and laws applicable18
to Toledo Bend Reservoir.19 HLS 10RS-2852	ORIGINAL
