HLS 10RS-2852 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 124 BY REPRESENTATIVE ARMES FISHING/RECREATIONAL: Urges the Sabine River Authority and the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries to work with their Texas counterpart to develop consistent fishing regulations on Toledo Bend A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Sabine River Authority and the Department of Wildlife and2 Fisheries to work with their Texas counterparts to develop consistent fishing3 regulations applicable throughout the Toledo Bend Reservoir.4 WHEREAS, the states of Louisiana and Texas, through the Sabine River Compact,5 share access to and authority over the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Reservoir; and6 WHEREAS, through the years, differing fish management regimes have been7 developed by the two states, including different size and creel limits, which can make fishing8 on Toledo Bend confusing for the angler and the laws difficult to enforce; and9 WHEREAS, since Toledo Bend is one body of water with no distinctions between10 the two states' geographical areas, it would seem to make sense that the fish management11 regime should be the same across the entire body of water rather than differing between the12 two states; and13 WHEREAS, the Sabine River Authority is Louisiana's representative in the Sabine14 River Compact and has the relationship with the Texas Sabine River Compact15 representatives to enable discussion of consistent fishing regulations; and16 WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to17 manage fisheries for the state of Louisiana and to enforce the regulations and laws applicable18 to Toledo Bend Reservoir.19 HLS 10RS-2852 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 124 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1 urge and request the Sabine River Authority and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries2 to work with their Texas counterparts to develop consistent fishing regulations applicable3 throughout the Toledo Bend Reservoir.4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the5 secretary of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the chairman of the Sabine River6 Authority.7 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
