HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 131
BY REPRESENTATIVE RICHMOND
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Derrick Edwards for his accomplishments in life
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Derrick Edwards for his accomplishments in life and his hard work and2
dedication.3
WHEREAS, Derrick Edwards is a New Orleans native and a graduate of Loyola4
University School of Law; and5
WHEREAS, he is the ultimate example of what can be accomplished through hard6
work and endurance in spite of the obstacles that life may throw your way; and7
WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards was paralyzed from the neck down as a result of a8
catastrophic football injury during his last year in high school; and9
WHEREAS, Derrick Edwards went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Tulane10
University's A.B. Freeman School of Business and a master's degree in accounting; and11
WHEREAS, Derrick Edwards graduated from Loyola University College of Law and12
is now practicing law as an associate  at Usry, Weeks, & Matthews, APLC; and13
WHEREAS, after his injury, Mr. Edwards began to commit himself to community14
service, particularly in the area of public speaking and advocating for the rights of disabled15
citizens.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17
commends Derrick Edwards for his accomplishments in life and his hard work and18

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1
to Mr. Derrick Edwards.2
