BY REPRESENTATIVES HUTTER, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, DOERGE, HILL,
ROSALIND JONES, KATZ, LANDRY, NORTON, JANE SMITH, PATRICIA
SMITH, ST. GERMAIN, STIAES, AND THIERRY AND SENATORS BROOME,

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Rachelle Ammond upon her receipt of a 2010 Women
of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Rachelle Ammond upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award2
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Rachelle Ammond upon her receipt of a4
2010 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus5
Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active6
and dedicated community servant; and7
WHEREAS, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, Ms. Ammond graduated first in the Class8
of 2010 from Pope John Paul II High School and recently received an appointment to the9
United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where she plans to study chemistry;10
and11
WHEREAS, during her four years at Pope John Paul II High School, Ms. Ammond12
was an active member of the National Honor Society, serving as president during her senior13
year, and she served with unwavering dedication for two years on the student council as14
class representative and as executive board secretary; and15
WHEREAS, as an active ambassador for Pope John Paul II High School, Ms.16
Ammond participated in numerous activities to promote the school to future students and17

WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also served as president of the Fellowship of Christian1
Athletes and vice president of the Math Club; and2
WHEREAS, in addition to being highly involved in organizations at Pope John Paul3
II High School, Ms. Ammond also participated in athletics as a four-year varsity member4
and captain of the softball team and as captain of the cross country team; and5
WHEREAS, as a member of the softball team, Ms. Ammond helped her team win6
a Class 2A state championship, was named defensive most valuable player each year, and7
was named first team all-district; and8
WHEREAS, in her spare time, Ms. Ammond volunteers as the assistant coach for the9
Our Lady of Lourdes cross country team; and10
WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond is an active member of her faith who continues her11
involvement in her church parish, where she serves as an extraordinary minister of Holy12
Communion; and13
WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond was a member of the retreat team at Pope John Paul II14
High School and participated in the Life Teen Steubenville Conference in Atlanta last15
summer; and16
WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also serves with great distinction as a lector at Our Lady17
of Lourdes Catholic Church and volunteers each summer at the vacation Bible school at St.18
Luke Evangelical Church; and19
WHEREAS, last summer, Ms. Ammond attended the American Legion Auxiliary20
Girls State, and she credits the week-long experience as a wonderful firsthand opportunity21
to learn about the functioning of government and the responsibility of adult citizenship; and22
WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also attended a week-long summer seminar at the United23
States Naval Academy, and this experience solidified her desire to pursue her education24
through a service academy; and25
WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond plans to pursue a bachelor's degree at the United States26
Naval Academy, and she is reporting to the campus on July 1, 2010, for Induction Day; and27
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the28
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence29

WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics1
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are2
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and3
WHEREAS, this year, there were seven categories for the Women of Excellence4
Awards: Business, Culinary Arts, Education, Law and Justice, Volunteerism and Civic5
Involvement, Young High School Woman of Excellence, and Young Woman of Excellence;6
and7
WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2010 Women of Excellence Awards are being8
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of9
Excellence Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Baton Rouge; and10
WHEREAS, Rachelle Ammond received a 2010 Women of Excellence Award in the11
category of Young High School Woman of Excellence, presented to an outstanding high12
school student between the ages of fourteen and eighteen; and13
WHEREAS, with her receipt of this award, Ms. Ammond is also a Louisiana14
Legislative Women's Caucus Scholarship recipient; and15
WHEREAS, Rachelle Ammond merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of16
commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments. 17
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby18
commend Rachelle Ammond of Slidell upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence19
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation, does hereby recognize20
and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active21
and dedicated community servant, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the22
tremendous honor and pride that she brings to her family, friends, and community, the city23
of Slidell, and the state of Louisiana.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted25
