GERMAIN, STIAES, AND THIERRY AND SENATORS BROOME, CHEEK, DORSEY, DUPLESSIS, JACKSON, MOUNT, PETERSON, AND QUINN A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Rachelle Ammond upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Rachelle Ammond upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active and dedicated community servant; and WHEREAS, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, Ms. Ammond graduated first in the Class of 2010 from Pope John Paul II High School and recently received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where she plans to study chemistry; and WHEREAS, during her four years at Pope John Paul II High School, Ms. Ammond was an active member of the National Honor Society, serving as president during her senior year, and she served with unwavering dedication for two years on the student council as class representative and as executive board secretary; and WHEREAS, as an active ambassador for Pope John Paul II High School, Ms. Ammond participated in numerous activities to promote the school to future students and their parents; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and vice president of the Math Club; and WHEREAS, in addition to being highly involved in organizations at Pope John Paul II High School, Ms. Ammond also participated in athletics as a four-year varsity member and captain of the softball team and as captain of the cross country team; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 140 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, as a member of the softball team, Ms. Ammond helped her team win a Class 2A state championship, was named defensive most valuable player each year, and was named first team all-district; and WHEREAS, in her spare time, Ms. Ammond volunteers as the assistant coach for the Our Lady of Lourdes cross country team; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond is an active member of her faith who continues her involvement in her church parish, where she serves as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond was a member of the retreat team at Pope John Paul II High School and participated in the Life Teen Steubenville Conference in Atlanta last summer; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also serves with great distinction as a lector at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and volunteers each summer at the vacation Bible school at St. Luke Evangelical Church; and WHEREAS, last summer, Ms. Ammond attended the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, and she credits the week-long experience as a wonderful firsthand opportunity to learn about the functioning of government and the responsibility of adult citizenship; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond also attended a week-long summer seminar at the United States Naval Academy, and this experience solidified her desire to pursue her education through a service academy; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ammond plans to pursue a bachelor's degree at the United States Naval Academy, and she is reporting to the campus on July 1, 2010, for Induction Day; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, this year, there were seven categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: Business, Culinary Arts, Education, Law and Justice, Volunteerism and Civic ENROLLEDHCR NO. 140 Page 3 of 3 Involvement, Young High School Woman of Excellence, and Young Woman of Excellence; and WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2010 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, Rachelle Ammond received a 2010 Women of Excellence Award in the category of Young High School Woman of Excellence, presented to an outstanding high school student between the ages of fourteen and eighteen; and WHEREAS, with her receipt of this award, Ms. Ammond is also a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Scholarship recipient; and WHEREAS, Rachelle Ammond merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Rachelle Ammond of Slidell upon her receipt of a 2010 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana as an active and dedicated community servant, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor and pride that she brings to her family, friends, and community, the city of Slidell, and the state of Louisiana.
