HLS 10RS-3840 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 153 BY REPRESENTATIVE DOVE COASTAL RES/WETLANDS: Recognizes Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as Coastal Day at the legislature A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To recognize Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.2 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast - its communities, businesses and natural resources -3 are of the utmost importance to the cultural welfare and economy of the state; and4 WHEREAS, the health and sustainability of our coastal area is threatened by storm5 surge, saltwater intrusion, subsidence, sea level rise, and other natural and man-made6 influences; and7 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast can be sustained through the establishment of an8 integrated system of protection and restoration; and9 WHEREAS, over the past several years, the state has enjoyed great success in10 reducing land loss rates and improving hurricane protection along the coast through the11 coordinated efforts of integrated coastal protection; and 12 WHEREAS, the establishment and expansion of this system of integrated coastal13 protection in the coming years will require continued robust funding and efficient program14 administration from federal, state, and local governments; and15 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day to recognize the value of16 Louisiana's coast, highlight the challenges it faces, and support the work needed to sustain17 the coast.18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby19 recognize Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.20 HLS 10RS-3840 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 153 Page 2 of 2 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
