CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor,
Jr., of Pineville
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor,2
Jr., of Pineville.3
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., of5
Pineville on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the age of seventy-four; and6
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Pineville, Mr. Tudor was a contractor and real7
estate developer who grew his family's business, Tudor Construction Company, which later8
became Tudor Enterprises, into multi-million dollar regional corporations; and9
WHEREAS, born on May 18, 1935, to Lorraine Price and Robert B. Tudor, Sr., Mr.10
Tudor graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, where he played basketball and11
tennis, finishing as state runner-up in the men's tennis singles in his junior and senior years;12
and13
WHEREAS, as an engineering student at Louisiana State University, Mr. Tudor14
lettered in varsity tennis for four years and was captain of the tennis team in 1956 and 1957;15
and16
WHEREAS, at Louisiana State University, Mr. Tudor received the Outstanding17
Engineering Graduate Award and was a member of Sigma Tau Alpha National Civil18
Engineering Fraternity, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa19
National Leadership and Scholastic Fraternity, and Sigma Chi National Social Fraternity;20

WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was also a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corp at1
Louisiana State University, and his service was recognized with the Distinguished Military2
Graduate Award and a commission in the United States Army; and3
WHEREAS, following graduation, Mr. Tudor served with great pride and valor as4
a second lieutenant in anti-aircraft artillery in the United States Army on active duty at Fort5
Bliss in Texas and Fort Chaffee in Arkansas; and6
WHEREAS, after his service in the United States Army, Mr. Tudor returned to7
Alexandria in 1958 to join his father as the third generation at Tudor Construction Company,8
and he was named managing partner in 1961; and 9
WHEREAS, under Mr. Tudor's dynamic leadership, Tudor Construction Company10
diversified both geographically and in the types of construction work offered and quickly11
expanded to become one of the few Louisiana construction companies to work statewide,12
completing numerous significant projects throughout the state and the South; and13
WHEREAS, over the years, Tudor Construction Company established offices in14
Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Hammond, as well as in Denver, Colorado, and Washington,15
D.C., and this construction legacy continues as Tudor, Inc., which is owned and operated by16
Mr. Tudor's son, John Tudor; and 17
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor further expanded the Tudor business interests by creating the18
development and property management company, Tudor Enterprises; and19
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor's professional legacy is written in the skyline of Central20
Louisiana, as numerous Central Louisiana buildings stand as a tribute to his work; and21
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor's success in his professional life was complemented by his22
generous contributions to his community and his commitment to his family; and23
WHEREAS, throughout his life, Mr. Tudor was highly active in professional, civic,24
athletic, and religious circles and was well known across the state of Louisiana; and25
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a founding member of the Central Cities Development26
Corporation, which focused on the redevelopment of downtown Alexandria, and he was the27
first chairman of the Rapides Area Planning Commission, serving from 1970 to 1974; and28
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a driving force in the creation of the Cenla Advantage29
Partnership, and he served as a board member since its founding; and30 HLS 10RS-1541 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor also served with great distinction as president of the1
Alexandria Rotary Club from 1969 to 1970, and on the boards of numerous civic2
organizations, including the Alexandria-Pineville Chamber of Commerce, the Attakapas3
Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Central Cities Development Board, the City of4
Alexandria Downtown Development Committee, the Council for a Better Louisiana, the5
Council of Music and Performing Arts, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry,6
the Louisiana College Board of Development, the Louisiana Cultural Alliance, the LSU7
Foundation, the Pineville City Planning Committee, and the YMCA; and8
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was affiliated with various professional and trade9
organizations, including the Central Louisiana Chapter of the Associated General10
Contractors, the Louisiana Associated General Contractors State Council, the Louisiana11
Construction Industry Legislative Council Advisory Board, and the Urban Land Institute;12
and13
WHEREAS, in recognition of his success and dedication to excellence, Mr. Tudor14
received numerous awards and honors throughout his life; and15
WHEREAS, in 1970, Mr. Tudor was named Outstanding Young Man of the Year for16
Central Louisiana and one of three Outstanding Young Men of the Year for the state of17
Louisiana; and18
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor also received the Louisiana Preservation Alliance Award for19
his work on the Hotel Bentley and the Diamond Grill and the National Trust of Historic20
Preservation Honor Award for his preservation of The Hotel Bentley in 1986; and21
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was awarded the Trustee's Distinguished Service Award by22
Louisiana College in 2007; and23
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Pineville,24
where he served faithfully on the Board of Deacons and taught Sunday School; and 25
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was a loving and devoted father and stepfather who26
encouraged, challenged, and supported his children's pursuits and dreams; and27
WHEREAS, in his leisure time, Mr. Tudor enjoyed listening to and collecting music,28

WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Graham Tudor; five1
children, Anne Elizabeth Tudor, Robert B. Tudor III and his wife, Phoebe, John M. Tudor2
and his wife, Kheli, William A. Tudor and his wife, Monique, and Geoffrey T. Tudor; three3
step-children, Michelle Jennings and her husband, Nathan, Justin Hathorn and his wife, Ali,4
and Holly Hathorn and her fiancé, Brandon; nineteen grandchildren; one great-5
granddaughter; his sister, Sue Tudor Miller; his brother, Michael S. Tudor and his wife,6
Susan; and an array of extended family members and friends; and7
WHEREAS, Mr. Tudor was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Tudor, Sr.,8
and Lorraine Price Tudor; and 9
WHEREAS, with the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., Louisiana has lost10
one of her finest citizens; and11
WHEREAS, although the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr., has left a12
tremendous void in his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts13
of all who knew and loved him.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor,16
Jr., of Pineville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding17
accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring gratitude for18
the tremendous honor and pride that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family,19
friends, and community, the town of Pineville, the state of Louisiana, and the United States20
of America.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted22
to the family of Robert Beall "Buddy" Tudor, Jr.23
